Path from Craighalbert to Tesco Craigmarloch
The winding extension of the path
from Carrickstone behind the schools to Craighalbert is now in use and receives much footfall. The new path is lit and Disability Discrimination Act (DDA)
compliant i.e. it is suitable for wheelchair users and has
benches at rest points.Work started prior to February 2010 with the clearance of brushwood and technical
surveys and marking out of the route. The next stage involved removing the spoil heap behind the
schools out onto the Eastfield Road which caused initial
inconvenience due to the transport of earth etc in dumpers down the the
section of the Eastfield Road on either side of the Craighalbert
Roundabout. This spoil was brought into the grassed area between
Craighalbert and the Craigmarloch Roundabout and was used to build up
sections off the new path, although some additional snags/problems were found along the way.
This
path joins up to the Zoar Road up from Croy to Tesco and is
another link in the Core Paths through and round Cumbernauld. It provides a convenient walking route into the Community Park and
enables local residents from Craigmarloch (via the underpass near the
schools) and Carrickstone to get to Tesco without crossing the
Eastfield Road. It might also be useful to the schools visiting the
Craigmarloch Neighbourhood Centre and help with their transport
strategy.
