Path from Craighalbert to Tesco Craigmarloch

Craighalbert Phase 2 Proposed PathWork is due to start in February 2010  to create an extension of the path from Carrickstone behind the schools to Craighalbert. Like the path built last year it will be lit and Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) compliant i.e. it will be suitable for wheelchair users and will have benches at rest points. The clearance of brushwood and technical surveys have already been done and the route is marked out.

The first stage of the work will involve removing the spoil heap behind the schools out onto the Eastfield Road which may cause initial inconvenience due to the transport of earth etc in dumpers down the the section of the Eastfield Road on either side of the Craighalbert Roundabout.  This spoil will be brought into the grassed area between Craighalbert and the Craigmarloch Roundabout and used to build up sections off the new path. This stage should be completed over the first few weeks of the project with the end date (subject to weather) for completion around mid April.

This path will join up to the Zoar Road up from Croy to Tesco and will be another link in the Core Paths through and round Cumbernauld. It will also provide a convenient walking route into the Community Park and enable local residents from Craigmarloch (via the underpass near the schools) and Carrickstone to get to Tesco without crossing the Eastfield Road. It may also be useful to the schools visiting the Craigmarloch Neighbourhood Centre and help with their transport strategy.
